There cannot possibly be a hell brutal or heinous enough to dispense the eternal torment that "honor" killers deserve.
So the FedEx package that was supposed to be delivered on Saturday wasn't delivered today either.
According to the FedEx agent I spoke with today, my package was originally shipped FedEx "Home Direct" which delivers on Saturday. Somehow, when the package got to the local sorting facility, it was transfered to FedEx Ground which does not deliver on Saturday. The agent speculated that the reason my package was transfered to Ground was because the sorter felt how heavy my package was and assumed it was too heavy for Home Direct (the limit is 70lbs for Home Direct and my package was listed at 70lbs). Then he went on to explain that the Home Direct people are contractors, suggesting that they are not as reliable as regular FedEx employees. Typical blame it on the contractor crap, and it doesnt explain why my package was on the truck for delivery but wasn't delivered.
He still didn't offer much of an explaination as to why my package had not been delivered yet, and said that it was "50-50" on the delivery today (I called at about 5:30). At this point the package should have been delivered, Home Direct or Ground.
This crap is sooooo frustrating, but there's nothing I can do but rant about it so here I am again.
Today, I hung around the house all damn day waiting for a FedEx delivery that I paid extra for so that it would be delivered to me to-fucking-day. If the bastard showed up anytime today it would have been alright because at least I would not have wasted my god-damned time, but he didn't. The tracking info on FedEx's website says that my package had been "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" since 7:30am. I called FedEx at around 6:30pm to find out the status of the delivery and the service rep said that they deliver packages until 7:30 and so I should expect it, but I knew it wasn't coming.
This isn't the first time I've paid for expedited shipping and not received my delivery ontime since I moved down here. UPS has missed two delivery dates on 2nd day deliveries, one of them was an 5ft tall 80 pound box that they lost for 3 days. And DHL fucked up a 2nd day delivery too. Mind you, all of these missed deliveries have happend in little over a year since I've moved here, and despite how it sounds, I don't get many deliveries.
My experience with UPS and FedEx in DC was that you could set your watch by them. They almost always showed up within an hour of their normal delivery time regardless of traffic or weather, and I always receive my package on the day it was scheduled to be delivered. Granted my experiences in DC may have been and exception, but I could count on them.
So now my whole day is wasted, and I'll have to figure out how I'm going to get my package on Monday. I swear, if it wasn't for bad service I wouldn't get any service at all.
Don't get me wrong, DC is no mecca for good service, but there is just something qualitatively different about poor service here. Folks don't give a fuck and are eager to show you just how much. And don't waste your time seeing a manager because he is likely not to care either. I can't explain it. It's just the way it is...

Hilarious and sad at the same time. Basically, a beautiful woman asks for help picking a bikini. Warning: Mild debauchery, but no nudity.
Yesterday's front page of the Miami Herald reads:
NAACP: Where have all the members gone?
The nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization is fighting to regain the membership it had in decades past.
South Florida's black population has grown over the past two decades, but membership in the region's two largest NAACP branches has plummeted, to the dismay of civil rights communities in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
The Miami-Dade NAACP, which boasted 5,000 members in the late 1980s, now has 500 to 600, said Adora Obi Nweze, the state NAACP president who founded the branch. more...
Yeah, I know that Lil' Kim just busted a nuclear nut but what's up with the NAACP? It seems to me that the NAACP is as relevant now as it ever was, especially in light of the voter disenfranchisement during the '00 and '04 elections, the Hurricane Katrina fiasco, talk of racial profiling at airports, the redistricting in Texas, extraordinary rendition, torture, and much much more. But as I think back on these events and issues I honestly don't recall hearing about any response on the part of the NAACP (although I'm sure they did something). Nor did I think to myself: where is the NAACP?
Since I'm not a member of the NAACP maybe I'm partially to blame for its decline. Organization are only as strong as their membership. Then on top of that, the weaker an organizations members are socioeconomically, the more members it take to be heard. It only takes a handful of CEO to be a force for change, but it takes thousands of working class folk to get anything done. And the NAACP doesn't have either. It doesn't have a handful of powerful CEO, or enough working class folk to make things happen.
On the other hand, I don't think the NAACP is making a genuine effort to grow its membership. I'm constantly being bombarded with people trying to sell me stuff. My mailbox is overflowing with flyer's from organizations and businesses, large and small, trying to sell me something. Just last week I stopped by the Best Buy and there were two guys at a table selling gym memberships. I've never been invited to join the NAACP even though I've lived in majority African-American neighborhoods most of my life. Never seen a table nor pamphlet.
Having said all that, I think I'm going to join the NAACP. You can go wrong being a member of an organization with alumni like Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, and Medgar Evers. I just wish the NAACP would be more active in its recruitment and community efforts instead of just sitting around waiting for folks to discover them.
Welcome!

Yup, still there, I took that pick on Sunday. I didn't get a shot from the front of the building... read more
